TIP LIST
Click on the title to show the tip : Ouch ! How can I have an integre number for the timer and how
can I make a count-down timer ??? Don't worry, a little Python
script will correct these things : tip2 To edit a game in auto-start mode ( which quit when pressing exit ), you must first start Blender and then, open the file. To save your own game with the auto-start option, you must go to the "game" or " tools" menu ( it depends of your Blender version ), select auto-start mode and save. Don't forget to pack your Games before sending them ( "tools" or "file" menu ==> "pack data" ).
tip3 You're fed up with hidden commands and menu ? Check the "BlenderBoard" from NAN. It's very usefull. tip4 If you want to add bump mapping on your textures for nice effects, you must check the "nor" button in the material buttons. tip5 If you want to add bump mapping on your textures for nice effects, you must check the "nor" button in the material buttons. tip6 ALT-C ! The magic command... With this hotkey, you can convert everything in meshes : nurbs, metaballs, surfaces... Be carefull, you can't convert meshes in somethingelse so don't forget to duplicate the model before converting. tip7 In the render button ( F10 ), when you check the RGBA button at the bottom and save a TGA picture, an alpha layer is added and the world becomes transparent. Cool, isn't it ? If you do the same thing with a JPEG picture, a "black" layer is added instead of alpha. Ow ! And if you press W over your rended picture, you can move it and see the details... tip8 If you want Blender automaticaly creates files extentions of your animations ( because it does'nt by default ), you must check this little button in the render window ( F10 ) : You can also specify the path and the name on the top ( /render by default ). tip9 Don't forget, you can import some models/textures/text from other blend files with the SHIFT-F1 command. tip10 You losted an object ? Like a Halo in a "meshfull" scene ? Don't worry, just press ALT-F4 and voilà ! You have the complete objectlist of the scene. However, if you don't want to have this kind of problem, rename your smallest objects with a "big" name ( i.e "!!!HALO!!!" ) and check the "name" button in the edit buttons ( F9 ). tip11 Don't forget to use the ALT-D command instead of SHIFT-D to duplicate an object. If you use the first one, only a "clone" is duplicate and, when you modify one, the otherone changes automaticaly. tip12 Save ! Save ! There is no undo in Blender so you must save
every time... There are some options for saving over the menu bar
( move down the bar below the menu ). With these options, you can
configure an auto-save every n-minutes, you can also configure a
"number of version" for your file ( if you save in the
wrong file for example or if you want to reload the work you made
before saving ). Here is the menu : tip13 Do you know the snap menu ? It's very usefull for placing cursor and objects on the grid, the cursor or the object. You can access it with SHIFT-S and it works in the ipo wintow too ( to fix a key on frame and vice-versa ).
tip14 In case you prefer not to use the auto-save feature, Blender has a quick alternative for saving your work. First save your file as you normally would. Press [F2] and give your file an unique name, for eg. "testfile.blend". Then press [Enter] twice. Now, as you continue to modify your Blend file, you can do a three key save: 1. [F2] : Opens up the 'File Save' Window, 2. [Numpad_(Plus key)] : Increments the file name by one. eg. testfile.blend becomes testfile1.blend, 3. [Numpad_(Enter key)] : Confirms the File Save. If after using this technique, you wish to revert to your previous 3 key saved file, just press [F1] (File Open) and press [Numpad_(Enter key)] to load your previous work. In fact, you can use the [Numpad_(Plus key)] and [Numpad_(Minus key)] to toggle between all the previously saved numbered versions until you find the one you want. tip15 In the current Windows version of Blender (2.11), there is a minor Bug that prevents you from pasting the contents of the .cutbuffer text file into Blender using Alt+[v]. To repair this: - create a backup copy of the .Bfs file in your Windows directory and store it in a safe place (Just in case) - open up the .Bfs file in your Windows directory using a text editor, and replace: / /tmp with \ \tmp (Note: depending on the text editor that you use, the above may be displayed as a single line with little black squares. Do NOT erase the black squares - they represent carriage returns. Simply replace all the '/' with '\' and then save the file). - create and save the following file: C:\tmp\.cutbuffer - add some text to the .cutbuffer file and save it - open Blender, add a text object, delete the default text, and then press Alt+[v] tip16 Did you know that you can enter a number of special text characters in Blender? After adding text, and with at least one existing character, press Alt+Shift+Numpad_2 or Alt+Shift_Numpad_8 to scroll backwards or forward through all of the available characters. |
